Gidran is the traditional breed of Hungary.  It became an elegant, noble hunting- and cavalier- horse with good equestrian traits in the breeding, using and feeding circumstances of Mezőhegyes. In its history of the last century it had to suffer the bottle neck syndrome four times, but it could always regenerate. Trusting in the importance of the gene preservation and ability of the breed some enthusiastic breeders restored most of the original mare families. The paper shows this gene preservation procedure, highlighting the remarkable sport performance of the breed’s individuals.
